Children's Ministry
The Children's Ministry team care for babies and children of all ages up to & including Grade 6. Children learn in age appropriate groups which meet each week in the second half of our Sunday morning service, in the VCE Building of the Berwick Secondary College, thoughout each school term.
The Children's Ministry program aims to:
- facilitate the exploration and development of the Christian faith;
- provide a safe, secure and trustworthy environment for both children and teachers;
- encourage an environment of non-discriminatory and all-inclusive love, respect and care for all of Creation;
- nurture positive relationships between children and the wider BVC community;
- compliment the Christian education provided in the home and/or school, and to assist parents with this responsibility.
Our team utilise a variety of multimedia teaching tools to help the children discover more about God. The children enjoy a combination of games, craft, drama, music, discussion, DVDs, cooking, etc.
It is our hope and prayer that each child will not only learn about God, but will come to experience, know and serve Him and lead others in the way.
Our primary school aged groups consist of:
Our Mustard Seeds group caters for children in 3 & 4 year old kindergarten.
This group operates in a more structured format, with lots of short activities to maintain interest and attention. Each activity is chosen and designed to provide a building block which develop an overall lesson theme.
Go Fish! is designed to meet the needs of our children in Grades Prep & 1.
It might be an unusual name, but it was chosen from the reference in Mark 1:17 where Jesus says, "Come follow Me and I will send you out to fish for people."
In the same way, we want our children, right from this early age, to step into their identity in Christ Jesus and understand and participate in their calling to advance His kingdom.
Children belonging to our King's Kids group are aged between Grade 2 & Grade 3.
This group is learning, through various means, what it means to be a child of the King.
The teaching material used by our team is developed by Scripture Union and is designed to provide the children with a curriculum covering all of the main elements of the Christian faith.
Those being:
- Knowing God as Father
- Knowing Jesus as God's Son
- Knowing the Holy Spirit
- God's plan of reconciliation for Creation
- Prayer
- Baptism
- Communion
- Getting to know the Bible

Introducing heroes of the Christian faith
Our This Way Up group is designed for children in Grades 4 to 6.
The children of this group are encouraged to discover ways in which they can put their faith into action, to become responsible for nurturing their own relationship with God and to discover their place in the wider church and community.
We take our responsibility to "equip the saints" and to "train them in the way they should go" seriously. To this end we seek to connect any interested children of this age group with other ministry areas to receive ministry training and experience.
Our desire is that the children will not simply gain intellectual knowledge of God, but know Him personally, experience His presence and share all that they have been given with others.
